    • Carotid Pulse: Located on the side of the neck, in the groove beside the windpipe. This is often easier to find during or immediately after intense exercise.
  • The Procedure:
    1. Preparation: Sit quietly for five minutes to establish a true resting heart rate.
    2. Finger Placement: Use the pads of your index and middle fingers. Never use your thumb, as it has its own pulse and can lead to inaccurate counting.
    3. Pressure: Apply firm but gentle pressure until you feel a rhythmic thumping or tapping sensation.
    4. Counting: Look at your stopwatch. Count the number of beats you feel for 30 seconds and then multiply that number by 2 to get your beats per minute (BPM). Alternatively, count for 15 seconds and multiply by 4 for a quicker result.
