The skin, the body’s largest organ, comprises three main layers—the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis—functioning together to provide protection, temperature regulation, sensation, and vitamin D synthesis. The epidermis acts as a waterproof barrier, the dermis provides structure and elasticity, and the hypodermis stores fat and anchors skin to deeper tissues.
