There are three types of cough. on the other hand, Sneezing is a symptom of upper respiratory disease. All cough drugs and sneezing drugs will be discussed here. 1. Cough কি?

Lower Respiratory Tract থেকে অপ্রত্যাশিত কোন বস্তকে বের করে দেওয়ার Biological Mechanism কে cough বা কাশি বলে।

2. Classify Cough.

Cough are three types

• Productive Cough (cough with sputum)
• Non-productive cough (cough without sputum)

3. Sneeze কি?

Upper Respiratory Tract থেকে অপ্রত্যাশিত কোন বস্তুকে বের করে দেওয়ার Biological Mechanism কে Sneeze বা হাঁচি বলে

4. What are the medical signs of sneezing and coughing?

Wheeze is a symptom of Upper Respiratory Tract Disease and Cough is a symptom of Lower Respiratory Tract Disease Wheeze and cough at a time indicate that the problems are both in URT and LRT.

• Antitussive Cough Drugs

• Sedative Anti Histamine Antitussive Cough Drug
• Other antitussive Cough Drug

6. Mention the examples of Antitussive Cough Drugs

Examples of Antitussive Cough Drugs are

Antitussive Cough Drugs (Cough এর frequency কমায়)

• Narcotic Anti tussive: Codeine, Hydrocodone etc.
• Non narcotic Anti- tussive Dextromethorphan,
• Sedative Antihistamine Anti-tussive: Chlorpheniramine, Tripolidine.
• Others Antitussive. Cough lozenges, Eucalyptus inhalation

7. Mention examples of Expectorant Cough Drugs, Mucolytic Cough Drugs, and Combination Cough Drugs.

• Expectorants Cough Drugs: Guaifenessin (গুয়াইফেনেসিন)
• Mucolytic Cough Drugs: Bromhexine, Ambroxol
• Combination Cough Drugs: Combination of Anti-tussive, Expectorant, and Mucolytic. যেমন- Tusca plus.

8. Antitüssive drug কাকে বলে?

যে সকল drug brain এর cough center এ কাজ করার মাধ্যমে cough এর frequency কমায় তাদেরকে Antitussive drug বলে।

9. Mucolytics drug কাকে বলে ?

যে drug গুলি mucous (sputum) এর ঘনত্ব কমায় তাদেরকে mucolytic drug বলে। মিউকাস এর ঘনত্ব বেশি হলে sputum ( শ্লেষ্মা ) আঠালো হয় এবং আর্টিফিসিয়াল কাশিতেও তা বের হতে চায় না । তাই মিউকাস এর ঘনত্ব কমানোর জন্য mucolytic drug দেয়া হয় । যেমন:

• Bromhexin HCI (Mucolyt, Mucospel)
• Carbocisteine (Carbolin, Nokof, Tulsi)
• Erdosteine (Erdostin, Erdolyl)

10. Expectorant drug কাকে বলে?

যে drug গুলি broncus এর ক্ষরণ বৃদ্ধি করে, তাদেরকে expectorent drug বলে। Dry Cough বা শুকনা কাশির ক্ষেত্রে Expectorent drug দেয়া হয় । এত করে Bronchial wall এর ক্ষরন বৃদ্ধি ঘটে এবং শ্লেস্মার সাথে কফ উদ্রেককারি অপ্রতাশিত বস্তু Bronchus থেকে বের হয়ে আসে এবং কাশি কমে যায় ।

Expectorent drug গুলি :

• Guaifenessin.
• Potassium iodide.

Treatment of dry cough:

• Antitussive
• Expectorant.

Treatment of productive cough:

Sputum গাঢ় হলে Mucolytic Cough Drugs.

11. Narcotic Drug কাকে বলে ?

যে drug গুলি খেলে অথবা দেহে প্রয়োগ করলে নেশার উদ্রেক হয়, তাদেরকে নার্কোটিক ড্রাগ বলে । নার্কোটিক ড্রাগ গুলি হচ্ছে Heorine, Pathedine, Codine, Phensidile, Hydrocodone etc. রেজিস্টার্ড ডাক্তারগন মাদক নিয়োন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তরের অনুমতি নিয়ে নার্কোটিক ড্রাগ গুলি প্রেসক্রিপশন করে থাকেন ।

Hydrocodone is a narcotic antitussive (cough suppressant) drug. It acts directly on the cough center in the brain to relieve cough.

Pathedine is a narcotic analgesic ( Pain Killer) Drugs. Pethidine is an opioid pain-relief medicine. Pethidine is now less used because newer, safer opioids are available. Pethidine is sometimes used to reduce labour pain in childbirth.

Side effects of Non Narcotic Antitussive Drugs

Side effects of Non-narcotic Antitussive Drugs are:
